Scott Olson gets first win, five others return to victory lane at Mineral City Speedway

Sunday August 19, 2012

Scott Olson was back in Victory Lane as the USRA Mods took to the track for the first time since June.

After a long and hot summer, perfect racing weather greeted drivers and fans at the Mineral City Speedway Friday night with six classes in action on the fast half-mile clay oval.

For the first time since, June the USRA A-Mods returned to the track with Scott Olson taking down the win and $500 top prize, with Bill Crimmins, Ryan Watnem, Chris Snyder and Devon Havlik rounding out the top 5. It was the first win of the season at MCS for the Blairsburg pilot.

Due to the nice turnout of cars, officials announced that the A-Mods have been added to the program this Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 20-21, during the Great American Stock Shootout, as well as the Season Championships next Friday, Aug. 24.

Fort Dodge’s Lance Deal bested Wayne Crimmins, Malcolm Teachout and for the victory in the USRA Stock Car main event. It was Deal’s sixth win of the season.

In the USRA B-Mod main event, Eric Elliott of Boone took the checkered flag for his fourth win of the year. Polesitter Jake Simpson held on for the runner-up paycheck, followed by Andy Tiernan, Chase Ellingson and Matt Lettow.

USRA Hobby Stock points leader Myles Michehl of Fort Dodge picked up the $300 winner’s share of the prize money with his sixth triumph of the 2012 campaign. Cody Nielsen charged from tenth on the starting grid to a second-place finish. Jeremy Morriss, Bill Richards and Kevin Berger rounded out the top 5.

In other action, Fort Dodge residents Brad Hanse and Joe DeBoer each took home feature wins. While Hanse captured his seventh overall win and fifth straight in the Econo Stock class, DeBoer roared to his third of the season.

UP NEXT: GREAT AMERICAN STOCK CAR SHOOTOUT

On Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 20-21, the Stock Cars, B-Mods, Hobby Stocks and A-Mods take center stage for the Great American Stock Car Shootout. Stock Cars and B-Mods will pay $500 to win on Monday night while Hobby Stocks will pay $300 to win. The payoff explodes on Tuesday when Stock Cars and B-Mods will race for $1,000 to win with Hobby Stocks battling for a $600 top prize.

A-Mods will race for $500 to win and $100 to start each night.

Gates open at 5 p.m., hot laps start at 7 and racing begins at 7:30. Grandstand tickets are $10 for adults, $6 for kids ages 13-16 and children under 13 get in for free both days. Pit passes are $30 each day. There is no entry fee for this event.

The Mineral City Speedway is a 1/2-mile semi-banked dirt oval located 0.9 mile north of US 20 on US 169, then 0.5 mile east on 230th. For more information check out www.mineralcityspeedway.com online.
