Speedrome Racing Rewind From September 22, 2012

Canter Confirms Crown with Feature Victory

Fresh off of a riveting Chase for the Cup championship campaign, the Speedrome Roadrunners had a full agenda of events as a warm-up for the upcoming 16th annual Fall Festival series. It all began with preliminary heats. Those races were captured be Hornet transplant Casey Lee and 2004 division champ Ricky Martin. Recently crowned rookie-of-the-year Jeremy Pierce grabbed the early advantage in the main event. Bookend class kings Rick Howard and Brian Canter charged to the freshman driver’s bumper. Both would eventually slip by Jeremy. “Doc” Canter got to the line first for the win over “Slick” Rick and the persistent Pierce.

Burgess Wins Stock Figure 8 Main Event

The Bryant Heating & Cooling Systems Indianapolis Speedrome® hosted its final crossover event of 2012 on Saturday September 22nd. Veterans and a rookie tested the famous course capping off an evening of racing. The battle for victory was intense between opening night Figure 8 winner EJ Neat and Brian Luttrell Memorial victor Mike Burgess. These two would be inches apart the entire 25-lap distance. When the checkered flag flew, it was Burgess crossing the line first. This was his third feature triumph of 2012. Neat was the runner-up in this final tune-up for next season. Veteran wheel man Kenny McDonough rounded out the podium. The top rookie finisher was Lee Schwartz. Burgess won the preliminary heat crossover clash as well.

Kares Sweeps Junior Faskart Special Event

The Circle City Pyrotechnics Junior Faskarts were front and center Saturday night September 22nd for a special evening for the division. The cars for racers ages 7-15 years old came into this evening fresh off a historic track championship campaign. This event would be the second time in the class record books that twin main events would be held. Another rare occurrence came with qualifications for the rising talents. But the inaugural item was the first-ever trophy dash for the division. 2011 Jr Spec Faskart champion Dustin Kares was tops in that time trial session with a lap of 16.573 seconds. Everything would roll his way after that. The youngster captured that landmark trophy dash and proceeded to take checkered flags in both feature contests. 2012 rookie and feature winner Garrett Fox was pretty sporty on this evening as well. He was just a tick behind Dustin taking runner-up honors in each main. The hard luck story of the program was Brayde Harper. The many-time winner had mechanical woes after battling for the lead in each contest.
