Legends All-Star 2013 Qualifying

Wednesday May 22, 2013

Tyler Green heading to the pole checkered flag..

Tyler Green took home the big money last Summer from the Big Money 100 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. He also was crowned the Pro Division Champion for 2012 in the Jack in the Box Summer Shootout. It appears that he has picked up where he left off in 2013 as he grabbed the pole position for the Legends All-Stars race this Thursday night at Charlotte after the qualifying for the Coca-Cola 600. Green led a field of 46 cars in time trials on Tuesday night with a lap of 17.097 seconds. Doug Stevens, Legend car racing legend came home second with a lap of 17.138 seconds. Row two of the All-Star race will be made up of Kaz Grala and Ryan Mackintosh. Joey Paggett rounded out the top five in qualifying with a 17.180 second lap.

The top 20 qualifiers are locked into the race. The remaining 26 drivers will run in a “Hooligan” race before the feature on Thursday night to settle the final 10 drivers who will lock into All-Stars race. The purse for the race is $10,000. There has been no mention as to whether this is going to replace the Big Money event that has been held at the track the last three summers.

Tyler Green keeping the family proud by interviewing in his post qualifying time frame.

After passing post qualifying technical inspection, Green came to the Media Center at Charlotte where Frontstretch had an exclusive interview with him. Green noted that his family has raced thousands of laps around the quarter mile on the front straight at Charlotte. While they have a good handle on the setup for the car, they can’t get complacent. “The technology in this sport is constantly advancing,” Green said. “If we don’t stay ahead of it, we’ll get run over.”

Green is still working as a spotter on race weekends for Aric Almirola and helping his friend Ryan Farboon his race cars. He sold his Late Model because he was never home on weekends to race it and it costs over $1.000 to run every time. As for Thursday night, he’s ready to win the All-Stars race. The event is 40 laps and Green thinks he can go hard from the drop of the green. His only concern is that, when you push it to the edge all night, you might step over it, and that will put you in trouble.

Green doesn’t have any rides outside of his Legends car. He wants anyone in Zephyrhills, FL, who may have recently come into some money and would like to go racing, to know that he is available to drive their car.
