Discount Tix, Sixes Special, RoC Qualifiers All Reasons to ‘Jam the Stands’ at ABC Speedway

Thursday July 4, 2013

by Nick Gima

The ABC Raceway is offering fans one of the best deals in area stock car racing on Saturday night by combining three big events into one show – at a bargain price.

As part of the track’s rescheduled “Jam the Stands” Night, to be presented by Heartland Communications and WBSZ-FM, the five-division race program will include the annual “Six-Cylinder Summer Sizzler,” presented by the Bad River Lodge, Casino & Convention Center, as well as the AmsOil Race of Champions qualifying features for the Raceway’s WISSOTA-sanctioned divisions.

With the bad-weather issues the track faced early in its 2013 schedule, several sponsors’ events had to be shuffled around. However, the result is a program on Saturday that would be well worth the normal price of admission.

But because it’s “Jam the Stands” Night, that price is cut in half. An adult admission ticket will cost just five dollars, and kids ages 12 and under will still welcome for free when accompanied by a paying adult.

“Our usual admission ticket price is the lowest of any area race track,” ABC Raceway president Kurt Beeksma is eager to point out. “And we offer a lot of entertainment for that price. But cutting that price in half, and with all that we’ll have in store for the fans on Saturday night – it’s just that much more of a bargain.”

Included in the offering is the seventh annual “Summer Sizzler” for the track’s own Six-Cylinder class. The division, unique to the ABC Raceway, provides a competitive format for drivers as they work their way up to the more expensive race divisions offered regionally.

This year’s event will include a tribute to the late Rich Morrison, a former Six-Cylinder track champion, and will offer an enhanced purse to the feature field.

Also on the docket will be the special Race of Champions qualifiers for the WISSOTA Modifieds, Super Stocks and Midwest Modifieds. The winners of the features in each of those three divisions Saturday will receive automatic invitations to qualify for the prestigious AmsOil Race of Champions race during the WISSOTA 100, to be held at Dakota State Fair Speedway in Huron, SD, in mid-September.

Last Saturday night’s feature winners included Jeff Spacek of Phillips in the “big Mods,” Cameron’s Curt Myers in the Supers, Ashland’s Travis Nye in the Mid-Mods, Tyler Hudack of Ashland in the Sixes, and Terran Spacek of Phillips in the Pure Stocks.

The grandstand and pit gates will open at 5 pm on Saturday, with hot laps starting at 6:15 and the first race of the evening set for around 7 pm. Prior to Saturday’s race program, “Race Night” will provide up-to-date track news and weather information live on WBSZ, 93.3 FM, and online at www.wbszfm.com, from 4:30-6 pm.

The ABC Raceway is located 3-1/2 miles south of Ashland on State Highway 13 and one mile west on Butterworth Road. For raceday information call (715) 682-4990, or log on to the track’s website, www.abcraceway.com.
