World Finals Qualifying Recap

Friday November 8, 2013

Billy Moyer dominates Late Model qualifying while Paul McMahan and Jason Meyers are quickest in Sprints and Ryan Godown joins Jimmy Phelps at the top of the Big Block Modified time charts.

Billy Moyer is making his first competitive appearance in the World Finals and is making an early statement to the rest of the competition that he is there to win. Moyer hit the track in Group A for Friday’s qualifying session and laid down a lap of 15.413 seconds, faster than anyone in the group. Darrell Lanigan was quickest in Group B for Friday but his time of 15.484 seconds was not fast enough to knock Moyer off of the top spot. When qualifying for Saturday’s events took place, Moyer went out late in Group B. Shane Clanton had been quickest in Group A with a 15.619 second lap. Moyer not only topped everyone in his group but he ripped off a lap of 15.304 seconds to set the fast time for both sessions. Lanigan, Rick Eckert, Scott Bloomquist and Josh Richards, all from Group A besides Lanigan, completed the top 5 from Friday night’s qualifying action. John Blankenship, Jeremy Miller, Clanton, and Billy Ogle Jr. rounded out the top 5 for Saturday’s qualifying efforts.
