TweetLowe's NASCAR Notebook : Martin Gives Pre-Race Warning, Microsoft to Sponsor Green
Thomas Bowles · Sunday May 28, 2006
MARTIN CAUTIONS PATIENCE ON RESTARTS
In the prerace driver’s meeting, Mark Martin stood up to warn drivers to exercise patience on these restarts.
“We’ve seen that the first couple of laps the track’s been very slick,” said Martin. “It’s every driver’s responsibility to think about that.”
“A wreck on lap 3 shouldn’t happen.”
Unfortunately, not everyone listened, as Dale Jarrett and Robby Gordon tangled before the conclusion of lap 1…
WINDOWS LIVE ONE CARE TO SPONSOR GREEN
Jeff Green and Best Buy made a special announcement Sunday afternoon announcing a partnership with Windows Live One Care to sponsor the No.66 Haas CNC Chevrolet at Dover next weekend. It’s the first time Microsoft has served as primary sponsor of a Nextel Cup car.
“For a guy from Kentucky racing popsicle sticks down the gutters to coming to drive the Microsoft car, it’s pretty awesome,” quipped Green.
The car will carry a special blue and white paint scheme for the race.
HAAS OPENING WIND TUNNEL
Haas CNC also made a second announcement Sunday, revealing they were building a wind tunnel to be located just outside the airport in Concord, North Carolina. The $40 million project is expected to attract teams from all sorts of motorsports and beyond, as well as attempt to bring single-car team Haas CNC up to speed with the type of technology employed by Roush and Hendrick.
“There’s a capacity problem,” said Haas when asked about the current wind tunnel situation in the area. “Teams like ours can’t schedule time. We hope this will allow for a situation in which no team will get excluded.”
