DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Daytona International Speedway will once again be in search of talented area singers to participate in its fourth edition of “Straightaway to Stardom” talent competition with the lucky winner performing the National Anthem before more than 100,000 race fans prior to the Winn-Dixie 250 Powered By Coca-Cola NASCAR Nationwide Series race, scheduled for July 4 at 8 p.m. at DIS. Entry deadline is upon the receipt of the first 100 entries.
Those 100 finalists will be contacted by Speedway officials for additional contest information. Contestants can enter “Straightaway to Stardom” via mail or fax or stopping by Daytona 500 Experience or visit www.daytonainternationalspeedway.com for contest rules, regulations and additional information.
Teaming with Black Crow Broadcasting and Volusia Mall, in addition to singing at the Winn-Dixie 250 Powered By Coca-Cola Nationwide Series race, the winner will also receive credentials for themselves and three guests for the Winn-Dixie 250 Powered By Coca-Cola NASCAR Nationwide Series ace, tickets for four to the Brumos Porsche 250 race on Thursday, July 3 and four tickets to the Coke Zero 400 Powered By Coca-Cola on Saturday, July 5.
“We’re always amazed at the talent we discover each time we hold this competition,” said Speedway President Robin Braig. “Last year’s winner (Daytona Beach native Johnny Mayo) was incredible. What a thrill and the chance of a lifetime to sing before thousands of race fans who will be in place to watch one of the most exciting NASCAR Nationwide races of the year.”
Round One of the “Straightaway to Stardom” competition will take place Sunday, June 1, beginning at 1:30 in the Volusia Mall atrium. Those competing may sing acapella up to one minute of a song of their choice. Celebrity judges will whittle the field of 100 down to 20. Round two takes place in the shadows of Daytona International Speedway at Daytona 500 Experience on Saturday, June 7 at 7 p.m. as judges will cut the field to 10. Those competing in Round 2 will sing the National Anthem. Top 10 finalists will be invited to Gatorade Victory Lane for the final round to take place on Saturday, June 14 at 6 p.m. All finalists must sing the National Anthem.
