Statement from Daytona International Speedway President Robin Braig On NASCAR’s Announcement To Implement “Double-File Restarts – Shootout Style” For The NASCAR Nationwide Series
Saturday June 27, 2009
NASCAR announced the addition of “Double-File Restarts – Shootout Style” throughout each race in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. Beginning next weekend at Daytona International Speedway in the Subway Jalapeno 250 Powered By Coca-Cola on Friday night, July 3, the first- and second-place cars will line up side-by-side as the green flag is displayed for each restart.
Double-file restarts were introduced at the non-points NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race in May and the change was fully instituted for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series earlier this month at Pocono Raceway. Under the previous format, cars on the lead lap would restart in a single-file line while lapped cars would start in a line next to them.
Statement from Daytona International Speedway President Robin Braig:
“Race fans will now witness the excitement of ‘Double-File Restarts – Shootout Style’ in both NASCAR events during the upcoming Coke Zero 400 Weekend Powered By Coca-Cola. Since NASCAR made the decision to implement the double-file restarts in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series a few weeks ago, it’s been a huge hit with fans and competitors alike. Race fans have seen first-hand the thrilling racing that double-file restarts produce at Daytona International Speedway in the Budweiser Shootout and we’re glad to see these restart procedures will now be instituted in the NASCAR Nationwide Series beginning with next week’s Subway Jalapeno 250 At Daytona.”
Tickets for the Coke Zero 400 Powered By Coca-Cola on Saturday night, July 4 start at $40. Tickets are available on your web-enabled phone at mobile.daytonainternationalspeedway.com, online at www.daytonainternationalspeedway.com or by calling 1-800-PITSHOP
