Running Their Mouth: 2007 Gateway 250

This week, we’ll go through all the media reports, interviews, PR and all our own stuff to find the best quotes from the Busch Series race to capture the story of how the weekend unfolded. It’s the most original commentary you’ll ever find; the truth, coming straight out of the mouths of the drivers, crew members and the car owners themselves. This week, here’s a sneak peek at what some select few were thinking after the Gateway 250, as well as the NASCAR off week that was.

“It’s been a long time since we won, and we knew we had a good shot coming in here. Everybody on the team was real excited about coming in here, and the car was just dominant all night. I’m just real proud of everybody. We knew we had a good car after practice – we didn’t know it was going to be this good, though.” – Reed Sorenson on his Busch Series victory

“I don’t know who’s driving the No. 24 – he looks like a 10-year-old out there. He waved me by, then he ran into me.” – Mike Bliss on 18-year-old Landon Cassill

“(As far as the wreck), I was down on the yellow line as far as I could go, where I was supposed to be. I don’t know whether he checked up or he came down the track.” – Landon Cassill on Mike Bliss

“This was good Saturday night short-track racing. We [just] didn’t have any track position the whole race. Pit stops were average, at best. We just couldn’t seem to pass any cars on pit road. Our car was pretty good. I felt like at one time, it might have been the car to beat, if we could have had good track position up front.” – David Ragan, finished fifth

“It was a long night. We had a really good car. We had a better car than what we finished with, unfortunately. We got a little off on our pit sequence there and probably cost ourselves quite a bit of track position. All in all, not a bad night, but we’ve run better.” – Todd Kluever, finished 11th

“That was wild! We were running 11th and just outside the top 10 with 30 laps to go, and I was going by a lapped car on the outside in one and I got real loose and I started to slide up the track and smacked the fence on the exit and knocked the tow out of it… real bad. So from there, we just kind of had to limp [around], make sure we brought it home and ended up 16th.” – Bobby East

“I’m not sure what happened between the No. 20 and No. 24 cars, but they got together in front of me and I had nowhere to go. I didn’t think I hit them that hard, but it busted the radiator and we had to come in and fix it.” – Brad Keselowski, who finished 26th after being involved in the lap 100 accident

“I’m going to be changing diapers and just hanging out as dad, and I’m excited. I’m looking forward to it. We’re just going to pretty much stick around home. I’m doing the family thing, I’m looking forward to it. It’s going to be fun.” – Jeff Gordon on his two weeks of off time

“Right now, we have two tests in the two weeks and we don’t have anything really planned, just to stay at home and relax and not do a whole lot there. That’ll be a good thing in itself.” – Kevin Harvick

“You have no idea how glad I am to have a week off. I’m taking this momentum on vacation.” – Tony Stewart, who went to Canada and fished during his time off

“Chandra and I are going to Europe and just get away from everything. It’s time to relax and unwind and spend some time together. As the Chase draws closer, things are going to get more and more hectic, so you take every opportunity you can for rest and relaxation.” – Jimmie Johnson
