Instead of her usual weekly racing review, Senior Staff Writer Becca Gladden has scoured the NASCAR front to bring you the week’s curious, offbeat, and just plain wacky news from the intriguing world of big-time stock car racing. Trust us, these stories are all true – we just couldn’t make this stuff up!
Racing On Heels: What will the well-dressed fashion maven be wearing at the track this year? A pair of NASCAR ladies’ pumps, of course! As described at the NASCAR.com Superstore, “The black and white checkered pony hair pumps are made of imported Italian metallic patent leather, and feature signature tire tread flexible molded soles with the 4-color NASCAR logo. The pumps have a 3″ heel with racing flags and soft padding for long-lasting comfort.” Price? Just $99.99 a pair plus shipping.
Mystery Solved: Who commissioned a small airplane to tow a banner over Lowe’s Motor Speedway prior to the October 13th Charlotte Cup race – a banner which read, “How Much Does Bobby Ginn Owe You?” According to authorities, it was three DEI workers, upset that the former owner of Ginn Racing – which merged with DEI earlier this season – allegedly owes back pay to past employees. Unfortunately, the three are now out of a job at DEI as well after being fired for the airplane stunt.
This One’s For The Dogs: NASCAR star Greg Biffle got married last week to longtime girlfriend Nicole Lunders in an elegant South Carolina wedding. Biffle’s Roush Fenway Racing teammate Matt Kenseth was a member of the wedding party, and the couple’s three dogs – boxers Foster and Gracie and rescue dog Savannah – were also included in the post-ceremony activities and photos. No word yet on whether the dogs participated in the champagne toast, but rumor has it that Gracie caught the bouquet.
High And Dry Down South: Due to an unprecedented drought in Georgia, NASCAR teams were told earlier this week that they will not be permitted to wash their haulers or motor coaches at Atlanta in an effort to conserve water. Now, the drought is no laughing matter, so if you see a dirty motor coach in the infield this weekend, please refrain from writing “Wash Me!” in the rear window.
Phone Tag: On Tuesday, Carl Edwards, discussing his recent altercation with Kenseth, complained that his Roush teammates don’t call him when he wins, but added, “I’ve got Jimmie Johnson calling me every time I win to say ‘good job’.” So Johnson calls Edwards, but teammates Kenseth, Biffle and Jamie McMurray won’t pick up the phone and do the same? Don’t miss the next exciting episode of Dr. Phil: NASCAR Stars and the Teammates They Ignore! (OK, we made that last part up).
Until next week!
