Running Their Mouth: 2009 Pepsi 300 at Nashville

Each week, we’ll go through media reports, interviews, PR and all of our own stuff to find the best quotes from the Sprint Cup race, capturing the story of how the weekend unfolded. It’s the most original commentary you’ll ever find: the truth, coming straight out of the mouths of the drivers, crew members and car owners themselves. This week, here’s a special Nationwide Series peek at what the drivers were thinking following the Pepsi 300 at Nashville Superspeedway:

“I have to thank GameStop and Joe Gibbs Racing for all of their support and all the fans for coming out here today. This is a big win for me. Ever since I’ve been coming to Nashville – even at the fairgrounds, I’ve been wanting to get that guitar. This team really needed a win.” – Joey Logano

“He (Joey Logano) had a better car on the short run, and we had a better long run car. I want to thank Z-Line, NOS Energy Drink, Toyota and all the guys on this team. They did a great job. It was just a shame that we weren’t able to get out there and win this thing. That’s kind of frustrating, but we finished second today.” – Kyle Busch

[Logano] and [Busch] were pretty much the class of the field. I just couldn’t get to them on those last couple restarts. I’m really pleased with this third-place run for sure. I’m even more proud of my guys and the work they did on pit road, and I can’t thank them enough for their hard work week in and week out.” – Brad Keselowski

“I have to thank Kevin and DeLana [Harvick] for giving me this great opportunity. It was alot of fun out there, and we had a great car. We were able to recover from a bad stop late in the race to get a top-five finish. I’m just proud to have had this opportunity.” – Kelly Bires, finished a career best fourth

“We had a really fast racecar for most of the day today, but we just had so many obstacles to overcome. I feel like I passed just about every car out there five times coming from the back to the front. If we just could have kept our track position, I feel that we had a car capable of finishing in the top five.” – Steve Wallace, finished ninth

“It was a rally. It was a battle all day long, and a 10th today after where we started was a win for us. Our guys worked really, really hard and they got us the track position we needed. I’m learning, and I don’t know how much I can get away with these things yet. Real good day for us – terrible in qualifying and ended up pretty decent.” – Raybestos Rookie of the Race Scott Lagasse Jr.

“I’m pretty disappointed. That wasn’t how I expected the day to end. The race was almost over, and everyone was fighting hard for position. I got loose racing with the No. 32 car and couldn’t save it. I feel really bad for these guys – the whole team did a great job getting the car ready for today. I’m excited for the rest of my races this season.” – Ricky Stenhouse Jr., finished 23rd in his Nationwide Series debut

“I think there’s some rookies who need more experience before they get out there. That’s the first time I’ve been up like that in [a long time]. That thing just popped over quick. I couldn’t believe it snapped over. Just terrible. Brand new racecar and it’s killed. Oh well.” – Joe Nemechek, finished 34th

“Some fans in the garage area need to respect the drivers a little bit more because they’re bringing suitcases of diecasts and items that they want to get signed. Yeah, it’s our job to sign for the fans and treat them nice, but when they’ve got three suitcases of stuff, that’s a little ridiculous. If they had one or two items, I would be happy to sign for them – that’s fine. But three suitcases is a little outrageous.” – Kyle Busch on Nasvhille Speedway’s “All Access” day for the fans
