Bristol Holding Legends Race Again In 2010

Following the success of the 2009 legends race won by Sterling Marlin at Bristol Motor Speedway, the track will once again be holding the event to allow fans a chance to see past stars duke it out on the famed speedway.

The 2010 rules will be different from 2009 however; drivers who have competed in Nationwide or Sprint Cup series races in the last seven years would not be eligible. This means that Marlin and Rusty Wallace will not be eligible for this year’s event.

Participating in next year’s event so far are Cale Yarborough, Harry Gant, Jack Ingram, Phil Parsons, L.D. Ottinger, Larry Pearson and Charlie Glotzbach.

Details of what else will mark the event are still sketchy, but Bristol president Jeff Byrd appears committed to responding to fans’ wishes.

Kings Dominion Amusement Park Names Coaster After Dale Earnhardt

Kings Dominion, an amusement park in Doswell, VA, is debuting a new roller coaster in 2010 called the ‘Intimidator 305’, after the late Dale Earnhardt. The ‘305’ comes from the 305-foot lift hill.

The ride’s cars are designed to look like Earnhardt’s famous black No. 3, and the train will reach speeds of 90 MPH.

“We’re excited to see this new roller coaster celebrate the speed and intensity of the legendary career of Dale Earnhardt,” said Jeff Steiner, executive vice president of Dale Earnhardt Inc., who is partnering with the amusement park for the ride. “There are millions of fans that still honor their racing hero, and this is a very real way for them to connect with the spirit and passion of the Intimidator.”

A Charlotte-area amusement park has plans for its own Earnhardt coaster as well.
