Gray Gaulding Driver Diary – Installment #1

Gray Gaulding in a PASS Super Late Model.

My Name is Gray Gaulding and I am 13 years old. I have signed a a multi year deal with Kevin Harvick Inc. as part of Kevin and Delana’s 10 year Anniversary
of KHI, a milestone in their company.

I first started racing when I was 3 years old on a motorcycle flat track. From
there I continued on bikes until I was 9 then jumped into a Bandolero for two years. At 12 years old I started in a Legends Car to eventually become the youngest winner ever in a Legends car, youngest Track champion and the youngest National Champion! And now at 13 , I drive a Super Late Model in the PASS Series. I credit the Legends Car series and the team for preparing my car, as well as, Chase Pistone for helping with my ability to learn how to Drive a race car.

I am very excited to be able to run the Summer Shootout Series this year. I feel its great to keep the wheel in my hand when ever I can, because I know practice makes perfect and if I want to be a Championship driver at KHI in the near future. I have to stay focused and learn what I can about the car and its handling and drive the wheels off that baby!

My first week at the 2011 Summer Shootout Series in the Pro division (after a mandatory move by 600 for Winning the National Championship) ended with a
broken tie rod when the 6 & 7th place cars got together and spun and hit my left front! Its part of racing but at the same time to finish first I must first finish! I had a awesome heat race finishing 4th after starting 9th so I had some good seat time and got the car in race trim.

This weekend I am headed to Newport, Tenn. for the Pass Race in the Super with
my new crew chief Randy Renfrow and team from Coulter Motorsports! I am
real excited!

Tuesday I had one of the BIGGEST experiences of my LIFE and that was going
to the Victory Junction Gang Camp in North Carolina with all my Kevin Harvick Inc.
family; and first thing is I am so blessed to be a healthy kid with the opportunity that I have. One day I will be able to give back to that camp because I have never seen so many happy kids in my life. I mean no one was mad or sad they were just happy to be having fun! I was sad on the way home when my dad was explaining to me how these kids get to go to the camp and some of them might not make it. Its amazing. They look just like me and my sisters but have health problems. I hope anyone who reads this please go visit the camp its something you never will forget I promise!
