For the second time in as many days, Ryan Newman won the pole for a NASCAR race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. On Thursday, Newman qualified at the front of the pack for the Whelan Modified Tour race on Saturday. In Friday, he made it two for two, edging Stewart-Haas Racing teammate Tony Stewart to take P1 for Sunday’s Sprint Cup race, setting a new track record in the process. David Reutimann and Penske Racing teammates Kurt Busch and Brad Keselowski round out the top 5.
The rest of the top 10 positions for the Lenox Industrial Tools 301 went to Jeff Burton, Jeff Gordon, Juan Pablo Montoya, Paul Menard, and Kasey Kahne.
