Tony Stewart Wins the Pole for Saturday’s Bank of America 500

Tony Stewart went out on the track 36th in qualifying and laid down a lap of 28.131 seconds for a speed of 191.959 mph. 10 people hit the track after that to try and better the effort but no one was able to top lap. Matt Kenseth went out even earlier than Stewart but laid down an equally impressive lap of 28.137 seconds and a speed of 191.918 mph. The second row will be made up of Carl Edwards who turned a 28.144 second lap for a speed of 191.870 mph, and AJ Allmendinger whose lap was 28.150 seconds at a speed of 191.768 mph. Rounding out the top 10 in qualifying were Greg Biffle, Ryan Newman, Paul Menard, Kasey Kahne, Jimmie Johnson and Trevor Bayne.

This is Stewart’s first pole of the season and 13th of his career. This is the first career pole for Stewart at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
