IMCA Modifieds and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods will have regular homes at two more California venues in 2012.
Sanctioned Modifieds return to Ocean Speedway at Watsonville and newly renamed Ocean Speedway at Chowchilla this season. The SportMods are new at both tracks.
John Prentice returns as promoter at Watsonville, which runs on Friday nights beginning March 16, while taking the reins at Saturday speedplant Chowchilla, which opens on April 7.
“All efforts will be made to ensure that drivers can easily compete at both race tracks for championships,” Prentice said. “Drivers who compete at Watsonville on Friday will get free entry for Saturday shows at Chowchilla the next night.”
Modifieds were sanctioned at Watsonville from 2004-2010 and at Chowchilla in 2008.
IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing national points will be awarded in both divisions at the two tracks. Modifieds are part of IMCA’s Larry Shaw Racing Western Region.
The point season at Watsonville runs until Sept. 21, at Chowchilla until Sept. 29.
“This is an excellent opportunity for drivers in two divisions to race for points twice almost every weekend,” said IMCA Vice President of Operations Brett Root. “Chowchilla fits the IMCA approved schedule and enhances racing in the valley.”
