NASCAR Reinstates Troy Cupples, Suspends Kelly Johnson Under Substance Abuse Policy

One crew member was reinstated, while another crew member was suspended.

NASCAR announced on Tuesday, November 18th that they have reinstated Troy Cupples, a crew member in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, as he has successfully completed NASCAR’s Substance Abuse Policy Road to Recovery Program. Couples was found in violation of Section 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing) and Section-19 (violation of the NASCAR Substance Abuse Policy) of the NASCAR Rule Book earlier this season on August 11th.

NASCAR also announced that they have suspended Kelly Johnson, a crew member in the Sprint Cup Series, indefinitely for violating the sanctioning body’s Substance Abuse Policy. Johnson was found in violation of Section 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing) and 19 (violation of the NASCAR Substance Abuse Policy) of the 2014 NASCAR Rule Book on November 17th.
