The second Sprint Cup practice for Sunday’s Cheez-It 355 went to Jeff Gordon.
Gordon, with nine NASCAR Sprint Cup victories between Watkins Glen and Sonoma, put down a fast lap of 127.333 mph to lead the final road course practice session of his career.
Jimmie Johnson had an issue during the session, with his car unable to shift out of second gear. He finished in 20th, but the team was able to fix the problem.
Clint Bowyer, who led the first practice session, was only able to muster a lap of 124.401 mph, good enough for 32nd on the charts.
These 12 drivers will be joined by 32 others on Saturday for knockout pole qualifying at 1:15. 43 of them will make the race.
