Team Penske Sweeps Opening XFINITY Practice at Watkins Glen

Team Penske swept the opening round of practice for the NASCAR XFINITY Series Zippo 200 on Friday, with Joey Logano besting teammate Brad Keselowski for the top spot.

Logano, who is looking to win his first XFINITY race at the Glen, turned a lap of 122.452 mph. Keselowski, the 2013 winner of this race, ran 122.286 mph.

Brendan Gaughan (122.211), Paul Menard (121.638), and Kyle Larson (121.534) followed the Penske duo in positions three through five.

Spots six through ten went to points leader Chris Buescher (121.401), Brian Scott (121.180), Regan Smith (121.144), Boris Said (120.875), and Chase Elliott (120.647).

Daniel Suarez, making his first XFINITY road course start, got into trouble early on in the session. He pounded the wall in the inner loop less than ten minutes into practice, forcing him to a backup for the race.

John Wes Townley also spun, but didn’t hit anything and continued on. He finished practice in twenty-seventh, with a lap of 116.577 mph.

The practice was the first of two at Watkins Glen for the NXS drivers on Friday. The second will run from 3:30 to 4:25.
