With the Chase for the Sprint Cup approaching, a wild night in Bristol could be the last chance for some teams to earn a playoff-clinching win.
NASCAR released the entry list for the Aug. 22 Irwin Tools Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway. The list includes 46 drivers, meaning three will fail to make Saturday’s race.
Ryan Blaney will look to compete in all three major races at the 1/2-mile concrete oval, joining Joe Gibbs Racing driver Kyle Busch. However, Blaney will have to hope for good weather. Should qualifying for Saturday’s race be rained out, Blaney’s Wood Brothers Racing team would be one of the three to fail to qualify, joining Travis Kvapil and Michael McDowell.
Josh Wise will look to make his second start with Go Green Racing, piloting the team’s No. 32 Ford. Wise, who left Premium Motorsports following the July 11 Quaker State 400 at Kentucky Speedway, made his first start for the team at Michigan, three weeks after failing to qualify at Indianapolis.
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will return to the “Last Great Coliseum” on Friday, Aug. 21, for two practice session and Coors Light Pole Qualifying. Coverage of the IRWIN Tools Night race will begin on Saturday at 7:30 p.m ET on NBCSN and MRN.
