JJ Yeley Leads Final XFINITY Practice at Daytona

JJ Yeley leads final XFINITY Series practice at Daytona International Speedway. The No. 14 Toyota driver hit 187.005 mph [48.127 seconds] to take the session unexpectedly.

“We didn’t even plan to run second practice,” Yeley said. “I’m really happy with how the thing drove. We got the car to drive a little lower and had more speed. You can never tell what is going on until you get the whole pack out there.”

Yeley wasn’t the only small team atop the charts on Friday. Ross Chastain and JD Motorsports finished second quickest followed by Benny Gordon in his No. 14 Toyota. Ray Black Jr., Jeremy Clements, Dakoda Armstrong, Ryan Sieg and Mark Thompson also filled in the top-10 times.

The Chip Ganassi Racing driver of rookie Tyler Reddick topped the “big” teams in fourth followed by the Stewart-Haas Racing Ford of Cole Custer in fifth.
