Hendrick Motorsports Withdraws Appeal of No. 9 Penalties from ISM Raceway

Hendrick Motorsports announced Monday (March 19) it has withdrawn its appeal of the penalties handed out to the No. 9 team after last weekend’s race at the ISM Raceway.

The No. 9 team driven by Chase Elliott violated section 20.14.2 of the rule book, which involves rear suspension and trailing arm angles/pinion angle shims.

According to the penalty report, “truck trailing arm spacer/pinion angle shim surfaces must be in complete contact at all points, at all times. Failure to adhere to that can create additional sideforce and is a violation.”

NASCAR fined crew chief Alan Gustafson $50,000, suspended car chief Josh Kirk two races and also docked Elliott 25 driver points and the team 25 owner points.

Elliott’s third-place finish will not count towards any tiebreakers as well.

Car chief Josh Kirk will be back on duty at Bristol Motor Speedway.

I guess it’s a sign of the times when Mr. H can’t “find” anyone to reverse the penalty. Is it a changing of the guard?
