Ian James Splashes to GTS Pole at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park

At a wet Canadian Tire Motorsports Park Saturday (May 19), Team Panoz Racing’s Ian James claimed the pole for Pirelli World Challenge’s GTS/GTSA Race No. 1 with a lap of 102.211 seconds (86.609 mph).   James’ best lap is nearly 18 seconds slowed than Jade Buford‘s fastest lap on Friday.

James’ lap Saturday was 1.176 seconds faster than GMG Racing’s James Sofronas in the No. 14 Audi R8 LMS GT4.  Blackdog Speed Shop’s Lawson Aschenbach will start third in his Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R, followed by Buford in the PF Racing Ford Mustang GT4.  74 Ranch Racing’s Gar Robinson will start his Mercedes in fifth.

In GTSA, Flying Lizard Motorsports’ Mike Hedlund was fastest in his Audi with a lap of 108.532 seconds (81.565 mph), good enough for seventh overall.  Hedlund’s time was more than half a second faster than Mark Klenin in his McLaren 570S GT4.  Tony Gaples in the second Blackdog Speed Shop Chevrolet was third, followed by Dr. Preston Calvert in the second Panoz.  Orey Fidani will start fifth in GTSA in his Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport MR.

Race No. 1 for the GTS and GTSA classes is scheduled for 4:10 p.m. Saturday afternoon.  The race will be streamed live at World-Challenge.com.
