Kyle Larson Penalty Appeal Denied By National Motorsports Appeals Panel

Chip Ganassi Racing’s appeal of the L1 penalty assessed to Kyle Larson’s No. 42 team earlier this week was denied in an expedited hearing early Friday morning at Kansas Speedway.

The ruling means the 10-point penalty that dropped Larson 36 points below the cutoff line to make the Round of 8 stands. Additionally, crew chief Chad Johnston’s fine of $25,000, along with car chief David Bryant’s suspension will stand at this point.

The appeals panel, which consisted of Chuck Deery, Dixon Johnston and Cathy Rice agreed that rules were violated and upheld the penalty issued by NASCAR on Wednesday.

CGR filed an appeal of the decision, which will be heard at 7 p.m. CT. The ruling later Friday night will be final.

Larson led 101 laps at Kansas Speedway in May en route to a fourth-place finish and will likely need a victory to move forward in the championship battle this season.

I guess he doesn’t have the same representation as Hendrick at these “appeals.”
