Michael Annett Continues Superspeedway Form, Wins Xfinity Pole at Talladega

Continuing his strong superspeedway form in 2019, Daytona winner Michael Annett topped both rounds of single-car qualifying at Talladega Superspeedway Saturday morning to win the pole for the MoneyLion 300. This is Annett’s first career Xfinity Series pole. Tyler Reddick, Ross Chastain, Ryan Sieg and Justin Haley rounded out the top five.

Annett led a strong charge of Chevrolets that swept the top six positions in qualifying, with JR Motorsports and Kaulig Racing each placing two cars in the top six. Jeffrey Earnhardt was the fastest Toyota in seventh, Chase Briscoe the fastest Ford in ninth. The surprise of the session was Gray Gaulding, who will start a season-high eighth after posting a pickup in qualifying that had both driver and crew ecstatic on their team radios.

All 37 cars entered for Saturday’s race posted a qualifying time. Cody Ware was involved in the only incident of the session; after completing his green flag lap, Ware experienced what he described on the FOX telecast as a transmission issue. Ware, wanting to prevent a potential clean-up issue according to the driver, exited the racing surface approaching turn 1 at high speed and ended up spinning the No. 99 car (the car made no contact with the wall).

Ware’s spin did prevent Chad Finchum from completing his lap in the No. 13; Finchum was allowed to cool down his car and make a second attempt.
