The first race of AJ Allmendinger’s 2020 NASCAR Xfinity Series season has been announced.
Allmendinger will drive Kaulig Racing’s No. 16 in the season-opening race at Daytona International Speedway, team president Chris Rice revealed Monday, Dec. 30, in a SiriusXM interview.
Allmendinger had already been announced for a part-time schedule in 2020 for the team, which he competed for in the same capacity in 2019.
In five starts with the team’s then-part-time No. 10 last year, he scored one win, two top fives and two top 10s, the win coming at the Charlotte Motor Speedway ROVAL. His results would have been even better had his car not failed post-race inspection twice, at Daytona and Watkins Glen International.
Allmendinger will be an occasional teammate to Kaulig full-timers Ross Chastain and Justin Haley in 2020. Additional drivers of the No. 16 have not yet been announced.
