Veteran NTT IndyCar Series driver Charlie Kimball has a new full-time ride for the 2020 season.
Kimball joins AJ Foyt Racing in the team’s No. 4 car, with sponsorship from Novo Nordisk.
“I’m excited and honored to join AJ Foyt Racing and be a part of a team that has such deep roots in history at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and IndyCar,” Kimball said in a team release.
“Continuing the partnership with Novo Nordisk is also special since they have been an integral part of my career since I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. I’m more motivated than ever to work with the team to succeed at every IndyCar race in 2020. Thank you to AJ Foyt Racing, Novo Nordisk and our other partners for this opportunity.”
Novo Nordisk will be aboard the No. 4 in seven events, including the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, GMR Grand Prix in Indianapolis, Texas Indy 600, Bommarito Automotive Group 500 at Gateway and Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey. Novo Nordisk will then be an associate marketing partner in 11 races.
Kimball spent seven full-time seasons with Chip Ganassi Racing from 2011-2017 before joining Carlin in 2018. He remained with Carlin in a part-time role last season.
Kimball has one win at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in 2013, as well as six podiums throughout his career.
Matheus Leist, who previously piloted Foyt’s No. 4 car the past two seasons, has not made any announcements of his future plans.
