James Davison to Compete in Indy 500

Add James Davison to the list of competitors in this year’s Indianapolis 500.

Davison will drive the No. 51 Dallara-Honda for Dale Coyne Racing with support from Rick Ware Racing, NASCAR team owner Rick Ware told NBC Sports Aug. 6.

Jacobs Construction will sponsor Davison, who will compete in both the NASCAR Cup Series and NTT IndyCar Series this month.

Davison will also compete in the Cup races at the Daytona International Speedway road course and its oval. He will begin this month by competing in the doubleheader at Michigan International Speedway.

Davison has seven IndyCar starts, including six in the Indianapolis 500. He finished a career-best 12th last year.

On the NASCAR side, Davison made his Cup debut earlier this season. He has twice finished 30th, most recently at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

The Indianapolis 500 will take place on Aug. 23.
