Kevin Harvick Claims Pole for Daytona Road Course

The NASCAR Cup Series starting lineup for Sunday’s (Aug. 16) Go Bowling 235 at the Daytona International Speedway road course has been revealed, and Kevin Harvick will start from the pole.

Harvick, who swept last weekend’s events at Michigan International Speedway, wins the first Busch Pole Award since March.

The lineup was formed using a new formula with finishing position from the last race weighted 50%, owners points position 35% and last race’s fastest lap 15%. Previously, a random draw in groups of 12 determined where each driver began.

Harvick will start alongside Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin on the front row. JGR cohorts Martin Truex Jr. and Kyle Busch start third and fourth, respectively, while Team Penske’s Joey Logano rounds out the top five.

The No. 10 Stewart-Haas Racing driver, Aric Almirola, begins in sixth place. Chevrolet drivers Chase Elliott and Kurt Busch line up in seventh and eighth. Matt DiBenedetto and Austin Dillon complete the top 10.

The top 10 in points are Harvick, Brad, Hamlin, Blaney, Chase, Marty, Aric, Baby Busch and Kurt Busch. I figure after three events the top ten in points will be the first ten starters. I figure Brad missed out this time because he finished last in the previous example of Brian’s product.
