Brandon Gdovic Returning to Sam Hunt Racing for Limited 2021 Schedule

Sam Hunt Racing has had a busy week.

On the heels of Santino Ferrucci announcing he’d be joining the team for a part-time schedule this season after leaving IndyCar, it was revealed Jan. 12 that Brandon Gdovic will return to the Toyota-backed NASCAR Xfinity Series organization for a limited schedule in 2021.

Gdovic scored a best finish of 12th last season at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course while coming home 28th at the Daytona International Speedway road course after an accident.

Prior to the 2020 season, he made eight career Xfinity starts with a best finish of 13th at Watkins Glen International.

He will also enter the Toyota Racing Development program.

This season, the Yorktown, Va., native will turn his focus from road courses to ovals, much like Ferrucci, beginning at Daytona International Speedway. The remainder of Gdovic’s 2021 schedule has yet to be announced.

ā€œIā€™m excited to be back racing this year with Sam and looking forward to my first Superspeedway race,” Gdovic said in a press release. “Everyone knows anything can happen at Daytona and that we need to survive the first two thirds of the race before getting too aggressive. I think it will be an interesting experience for me and hope I can bring home a strong result for the team. Hopefully this race will lead to more good runs throughout the season.ā€

Team owner Sam Hunt and Gdovic have known each other for almost a decade, dating back to their time racing in the K&N Pro Series.

ComServe Wireless, WindStax Energy and Toyota Racing will provide sponsorship for the partial effort.

ā€œBrandon is a fierce competitor that accepts nothing but the best internally,” Hunt said. “He not only pushes himself, but pushes the team as a leader behind the wheel. He helped us tremendously in 2020, and the guys had a blast working with him. He is a team player, and I see Brandon as a staple to this organization moving forward.”

While Gdovic doesn’t have a plethora of NASCAR experience, he is no stranger to racing. He’s well versed in sports cars, including a Lamborghini Super Trofeo World championship and is a K&N Pro Series East winner.
