Jeffrey Earnhardt Attempting Talladega Xfinity Race for RCR

Jeffrey Earnhardt will pilot his grandfather’s iconic No. 3 for Richard Childress Racing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Talladega Superspeedway in 2022, the team announced April 12.

Earnhardt, who is the grandson of seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Dale Earnhardt, will attempt his first start for the same team as his Hall of Famer grandparent at the same track where the Intimidator won a record 10 Cup events.

“What a dream come true,” Earnhardt said in a team release. “The chance to be behind the wheel of the No. 3 car for RCR, that my pawpaw made famous, has long been a dream of mine and now it‘s finally happening. I also want to thank Mr. Childress for making this possible. The No. 3 car is cherished by a lot of people, and I know how much it means to him. To give me this opportunity is something I‘ll never forget.”

Earnhardt has made 135 career Xfinity starts, which includes a top-three result at Charlotte Motor Speedway during his tenure at Joe Gibbs Racing.

“It‘s great to have an Earnhardt back in one of our cars,” team owner Richard Childress said. “We think Jeffrey is a talented young driver, and I‘m confident he will run well at Talladega.”

Earnhardt has made four series starts in 2022 so far and has a best season finish of 13th coming at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
