Cody Ware Out at ROVAL, JJ Yeley to Sub

Cody Ware will not run this weekend’s NASCAR Cup Series race at the Charlotte Motor Speedway ROVAL, he tweeted Oct. 4.

JJ Yeley is running in Ware’s place in Rick Ware Racing’s No. 51.

Ware cited his continued recovery from a crash at Texas Motor Speedway and the “extensive footwork required for a road course event” as the reason for his leave from the car this weekend.

“My recovery process is going great and I’m feeling stronger every day,” Ware tweeted, noting that he plans to be back in the No. 51 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Ware follows similar decisions by Alex Bowman and Kurt Busch to step away from their respective Cup rides due to injuries suffered in the Next Gen car. Busch is not currently entered at the ROVAL, while Bowman, who skipped Talladega Superspeedway, is, though an official announcement about his status has not yet been made.

Ware finished a season-best sixth at Daytona International Speedway this summer. Yeley has made 15 Cup starts in 2022, mostly for RWR in its No. 15, with a best finish of 23rd at Darlington Raceway.
