For all the successes of pros going iRacing during the NASCAR COVID-19 shutdown, the general consensus seems to be that the return to real-track racing is coinciding almost perfectly with the eNASCAR Pro Invitational Series running its course. Be it the Kyle Larson slur fiasco or Santino Ferrucci turning the end of last week’s IndyCar …

Be it in Brasstown, N.C. Thursday night (April 30) or Lancaster, S.C. on Friday (May 1), live racing trickled back this weekend to locations throughout the southeast. For me, where Virginia is still under a stay-at-home order through June 10, there’s not much for a motorsports writer here to do but long for racing to …

Matt Kenseth dropped a NASCAR bombshell Monday (April 27) by announcing another comeback. He’ll drive Chip Ganassi Racing’s No. 42 in place of the banished Kyle Larson and run full-time once again at age 48. NASCAR typically doesn’t grant playoff waivers for drivers who voluntarily missed the season’s first four races, but chances are they’ll let Kenseth become championship-eligible.

Amidst the ongoing debate within the NASCAR community on returning to racing, which is raging from social media to the North Carolina statehouse, earlier this week I had a good chat with fellow Frontstretcher Mark Kristl as we worked to edit one of his upcoming columns. Mark, like I, has immediate family members working on …

The Kyle Larson Pandemic: Lack of a Cure Proving Worse than the Disease

Earlier this week, I compared Kyle Larson’s disastrous use of a taboo slur during an iRacing event to the current pandemic that has brought much of the world to its knees. Nearly a week later, it’s still proving an apt comparison. KEITH: LARSON’S SLUR BECOMES NASCAR’S PANDEMIC As my sixth weekend in quarantine comes to …

Death Penalty For Parking Violations? A Different Take on the Kyle Larson Saga

#42: Kyle Larson, Chip Ganassi Racing, Chevrolet Camaro McDonald's

Most people have heard the story by now of Kyle Larson’s NASCAR suspension for a racial slur used during a streamed iRacing event. One week ago (April 12), the incident wound up costing him millions in sponsorship and his full-time job from Chip Ganassi Racing. Let me be clear; there is no excuse for Larson …

One N-word, One NASCAR Career Self-Destructed by Kyle Larson

Kyle Larson spent much of the past decade hyped as NASCAR’s next great breakout superstar. Easter Sunday, in a matter of seconds, he broke through — as that driver who said the N-word. In just one sentence, the earthquake attached will forever rattle Larson’s career resume. Will NASCAR’s 2020 momentum wind up fractured along with …

Kyle Larson’s Slur Becomes NASCAR’s Pandemic Overnight

“I prefer dangerous freedom to peaceful servitude.” – Thomas Jefferson It has been written since early in the COVID-19 pandemic that American attitudes are perhaps more ill-suited than any other in the world to fight it. Americans, after all, have triumphed against previous existential challenges (World War II, 9/11) with aggressive, defiant, head-on clashes with …

I’ve got to commend NASCAR for opting to put even iRacing on hold to honor the traditional Easter off weekend this Sunday (April 12). I say that both from a tradition standpoint, as well as a personal relief that the racing community opted for normalcy instead of a continued push to substantiate virtual reality. Having …

Field Enters Turn Three After Final Restart of Iowa 250 pres. by Enogen

Motor Mile Speedway is one of the few oval tracks left in my home commonwealth of Virginia that I have yet to visit. That will stay a fact for all of 2020, with Motor Mile taking the pre-emptive step to cancel all scheduled race events for the 2020 season. The track’s press release indicated that …
