Daniel Ricciardo Departing McLaren After 2022

McLaren F1 Team has bought out Daniel Ricciardo‘s contract after the end of the 2022 season, The Associated Press reports.

“It’s been a privilege to be a part of the McLaren Racing family for the last two seasons,” Ricciardo said in a statement to the AP.

“I’ll be announcing my own future plans in due course but regardless of what this next chapter brings, I have no regrets and am proud of the effort and work I gave McLaren, especially the win in Monza, last season. I’ve never been more motivated to compete and be a part of a sport that I love so much and look forward to what comes next.”

Ricciardo did hold an option to retain his seat in 2023, but performance issues abounded; this season, Ricciardo has not taken a podium finish and runs 12th in points as F1 prepares to return from their traditional summer break in Belgium.

Teammate Lando Norris, on the other hand, has one podium finish at Emilio Romagna and sits seventh in points.

McLaren has not yet announced a replacement for Ricciardo in 2023, nor has Ricciardo revealed his plans for next year.

Ricciardo boasts eight F1 wins since debuting in 2012, one coming with McLaren.
