Who’s Hot/Who’s Not In Nextel Cup: 2006 Subway 500 at Martinsville Edition

As the smoke cleared from a wacky weekend of racing, Jeff Burton continued to remain the class of the Chase field, with the rest of his challengers now looking to play catchup in the second half. Heading into Martinsville, second through seventh in the standings are separated by just over 100 points, so any little bump or bang this weekend could send the standings into a tailspin.

Frontstretch Breakdown: 2006 Bank of America 500 at Charlotte

After finishing second at Talladega the previous week, Kasey Kahne came out and dominated at Lowe's, leading 134 laps and surviving a wacky race of attrition and pit strategy to come out on top in the Bank of America 500 and close to within 160 of points leader Jeff Burton. Kahne took the season sweep at the track over Lowe's legend Jimmie Johnson, who placed second; Burton, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Bobby Labonte rounded out the top five finishers.

Voices from the Heartland: Loyalty Is 1 Thing, Blind Stupidity Is Another

Sometimes - and it only happens about three times a year - sometimes, something happens on the track that evokes the best and worst out of all the fans that follow NASCAR week in, week out. Scanner Static: Brian Vickers Gets In A Parting Shot

I'm happy for Brian Vickers from the standpoint that I do think he's been running without quite the level of support the other Hendrick drivers get, and it was clearly important for him to win before he left the No. 25 to honor the memory of best friend Ricky Hendrick. However, this incident brings back to mind the same issues raised when Vickers took out Mike Bliss last year in the Nextel Open to win the event: he's fast, but can be sloppy.

What’s The Call? New Points System For The Chase?

This Week's Question: With Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeff Gordon and Denny Hamlin all taking a big hit in points in incidents caused by non-Chase drivers, is it time to institute a separate points system for the Chasers so that other teams' mistakes don't have such a huge negative impact?
